4 Simple Steps to Reboot Your Health
In this post I share my top 4 Simple Steps to Reboot Your Health. When was the last time you paused long enough to tune into your body? When you take a time out to consider your health, how do you feel? Are you vibrant, full of life and wake up energized, or are you constantly struggling, exhausted and find yourself complaining?
Knowing how to take charge of our own health can be a daunting undertaking for most of us, and we have little awareness of what our bodies needs are. We neglect ourselves and lose our own identity to fit into what society tells us is “normal”. Quite frankly, I find a lot of my clients have absolutely no idea how poorly their bodies are functioning until they receive a big wake up call. This is why a simple reboot is a must. Don’t think of it as a once a year thing. You can work on this simple steps every single day to upgrade your health.
“It’s time to take charge of own health”.
These are 4 simple everyday tips you can do to improve your health starting right now!
Step 1.
Ditch caffeine – or switch out coffee to Matcha, Rooibos, Yerba mate, Green tea, White tea or Herbal tea. If you are anything like me and not a coffee drinker, but consider yourself a matcha connoisseur and devotee you too can benefit from a 3 day reboot.
One of my favourite morning rituals is setting an intention with my eyes closed, hands wrapped around my favourite mug and taking 3 deep breaths. Don’t get me wrong the antioxidant rich wellness drink of the year is incredibly good for you (if you make it at home), but it still contains caffeine. Alas!
So many coffee shops jumping on the matcha bandwagon are using non dairy milks loaded with sweetener to get a silky rich roam, or the quality of matcha is less than pure and often not real matcha at all. (maybe that’s why the texture of my matcha the other day at a local coffee shop here in Seattle felt grainy).
Some delicious caffeine free Latte alternatives are: golden milk latte; aka turmeric latte, lavender latte and beetroot latte.
Step 2.
Hydrate – increase your daily water intake. If you are not currently drinking the suggested 8 glasses of 8oz of water daily (8×8) strive for that goal. I’ve also heard of the rule drink 1/2 your weight in ounces. I have more of the opinion to listen to your body. If you live in a dry climate you will need more fluids. If you exercise daily, you will need extra liquids especially after your workout. If you are feeling adventurous, try adding ½ a lemon or lime to your glass of water or alternate with cholera. Try essential oils, my favourite are Grapefruit, Lemon and Slim & Sassy by doTERRA. You can ready more about my love for essential oils here and here.
Step 3.
Decrease the junk – simply put; eat a diet rich in nutrients from pure whole foods. Not sure what qualifies, use our golden standard rule. If mother nature made it eat it, if science made it don’t.
Nutrient rich foods, support and enable our bodies to function properly. Our bodies are quite capable of detoxing all on their own – assuming your diet isn’t full of processed foods, chemicals and other toxic substances. When we inhale, ingest, or absorb toxins, our liver and kidneys work hard to flush many of them out. By eating clean we relieve some of the workload, allowing our body to detox naturally and more efficiently. Eliminate refined sugars and become a conscious consumer by reading the label on the back of your packaged foods. Download my FREE Sugar Swap Guide for ideas on how to incorporate healthy alternatives.
STEP 4.
Get a goodnight’s sleep
- Turn off electronics and reduce your exposure to blue light an hour before bed.
- Try instead reading a book
- Journaling or starting a gratitude practice – reflecting on the good that happened in your day. Overtime noticing and acknowledging the good turns your perspectives around
- Listening to chill relaxing music helps set a calming atmosphere. I created a meditation playlist for you, listen to it anywhere you need a time to reset and unwind.
- Evening meditation is an absolute must for me, I spend 20 minutes with Deepak Chopra listening to one of his guided meditations and no matter how stressful or jam packed my day has been my mind is instantly put at ease
- Creating a bedtime ritual of self love and self care is an absolute must. Relaxing in a warm bath with candle light and using essential oils to wind down is a beautiful way to end a day and especially if it’s been a stressful one. Lavender, Frankincense, Sandalwood, Vetiver and cedarwood are some of my personal favourites. Diffusing these oils are equally luxurious and an incredible aid for a peaceful nights sleep
