Best Apps For Health & Mindfulness

I’m letting you in on my fav apps I use for health and mindfulness. Do you remember the “what is in my handbag” page (or purse as you call it here in the US) from your favourite fashion magazine? You get a sneaky peek inside your favourite celeb or actors handbag which showcases their must have products and embellishments.

Or maybe you have “that friend” who is so organized and seems to carry everything from bandaids and safety-pins to deodorant, lip-balm and hand cream. That was NEVER me, if I needed a tampon i’d have to borrow one. If I ripped my pants (yup, just did that to my favourite pair of Mother Jeans – never do squats in skinny jeans!!) I’m the one tying my coat around my waist to cover my embarrassment vs. having a handy safety pin on hand.

Now-a-days, having an inside scoop on which apps people are using on their phone is the new norm. Every Millenium is in the know of the latest social media app, or; which app is best for editing photos – thank goodness for my older daughter Anisa who keeps me up to date on the latest and greatest.

You get such an amazing insight into how people think and what they prioritize just by the apps on their phone… I actually find it quite fascinating to know which apps and tools people use to enhance their day to day activities.

I thought I’d turn on my phone for you and share a few of the apps that make my life flow just a little easier.

Just like my handbag, I am not the type of person whose phone is so jam packed of apps you can never find the one you want, i’m more of a minimalistic type of person. Plus, I refuse to cave to video games and turn my girls into technology zombies.

Take my word as honest to the Goddess truth the apps I DO use are powerful and at times empowering for organization, creativity and mental health.

In no particular order…

My Favorite Health Apps:

  • Health — This app is free on the iPhone, use it track your steps (aim for 10,000)
  • Kindle — For reading digital books. I do not have a separate Kindle, so this is a great app, especially on long flights, just remember to turn it on airplane mode
  • Audible — To listen to empowering, inspirational or good old fashion mystery audio books. (I have to thank my good friend, fellow Barre and Yoga instructor Trina for this app, I’m now obsessed with listening to the likes of Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle or Marianne Williamson while driving in my car or taking a long walk
  • doTERRA Essentials Oils — To look up recipes and blends whenever I need
  • Oprah & Deepak 21 day meditation experience — Hands down my favourite guided meditation app. And a fantastic way to dip your big toe into meditation, keep an eye out for their free 21 day meditation offerings
  • Insight Timer — For guided meditations
  • 1 Giant Mind — Another amazing meditation app
  • 5 minute journal — An online gratitude journal. I was raised with a fountain pen, and to this day cannot write neat with a ball-point pen. My sister turned me onto this app a year ago and I’m hooked. What I love most about the app is that you can even add a daily photo – how cool is that?

My Favorite Productive Apps:

  • Gmail — My preferred email provider
  • Google Drive — My whole life and business is run from Google Drive (love you google)
  • SignNow — A fab app if you need to digitally sign documents. (we got rid of our printer/scanner so this and turboscan are my must haves)
  • TurboScan — This app will scan/store/email all your important documents
  • Keeper Security — This stores all your passwords and logins so you never have to hit the forgot password button every again
  • Evernote — For when my creative juices are at their best, I store ideas and clippings
  • Zoom — For client meetings and business calls
  • Skype — For chatting with oversees family and friends who are not on an iphone
  • Messages — One of my most-used apps
  • Notes — I never have a notepad or pen when I need one, plus my hubby has influenced my preference for having no little itsy bitsy pieces of paper hanging around. So when an idea comes my way I can jot it down and it syncs with my laptop

A Few Other Apps That I Simply Love:

  • FaceTime — To connect with family and besties from all over the globe (iphone)
  • Snapseed — Editing photos
  • Instagram — I know, I know!
  • WhatsApp – For my family overseas who are not on an Iphone
  • Pinterest — Currently renovating the kitchen in our little Greenlake house so this is a must have for inspiration
  • Podcasts — Where I listen to all my favourite podcasts
  • Spotify — To listen to all my fave music, also the app I use in the studio when I teach. Be sure to follow ChampagneYogi for all our favourite tunes
  • SkyView — Serena is obsessed with astronomy and her absolute fav app
  • SoundHound — When I’m out and hear a song I absolutely love and have to know what it’s called
  • Maps — GPS is a must when I’m travelling
  • Uber — Hello airport and for sure in NYC
