Monday Motivation: Choose You

Today’s Monday Motivation is the reminder we all need to hear: Choose YOU!

We spend so much time doing for others. Whether it’s for our kids, partner, parents, colleagues, friends, neighbors, church or other community group. We put their needs at the top of our priority list – often unconsciously and neglect the one person who needs attention the most. YOU!

How often do you find yourself putting the needs of others in front of your own and then are left feeling a little resentful? Maybe you take on an extra project because you think it will make you look good in your bosses eyes.

I get it. It’s a toughie especially if you are a parent or caring for another individual. That’s me all in one. I’m a mum, wife, daughter, activist and motival speaker for individuals with epilepsy. I’m also a business owner but most importantly I’m Amanda. It’s the Amanda part I used to neglect and when I did I found myself feeling frustrated and completely stressed out. Maybe you can relate?

I’m curious when you last prioritized YOU

Yes you might have a busy career, or multiple kiddos to take to and from school and after school sports. You have dinner to prep and a house to take care of, but at the end of the day YOU are the common thread. If you burn-out who is left to take care of you?

The effort you put into YOU is what you receive back from others and the universe

I want you to think back to the last time you did something for yourself? No matter how big or small.

Here are a couple questions to get you thinking:

When did you last exercise? Either at the gym, in your bedroom, out in nature, or the extra set of stairs you climbed just because?

Sleep? Did you get a solid 8 hours sleep, or were you up late finishing off a work project, that could have waited until you were on the clock?

Laugh? When was the last time you had a good belly laugh? One so big you almost wet yourself!

Quiet time? How often do you allow yourself to sit in silence? This is one of the most productive and equally restorative gifts I give myself.

Eat a nourishing meal? Rather than grabbing a quick grab and go from the closet fast food chain.

Confided in someone you trust? Perhaps a therapist, bestie, your partner or parent? You cannot hold everything inside, and we can all agree we need a special someone to talk things through with.

Acknowledged yourself! The gentle reminder you matter.

These are all acts of self care and self love. By showing others you make yourself a priority they will make you a priority too. This ripple effect will change and help so many others. You will be happier, healthier, more vibrant, full of energy, joy and love. Others will see this, they will want it and the world will be a better place. Remember, Choose YOU!
