Monday Motivation… What’s my why?

Today’s post is inspired by a last minute question I asked myself on my drive into the studio today. Traffic was backed up around the block and then some. It wasn’t moving at all. Drivers were trying to cut one another off and honking their horns in absolute frustration. And you know what –– I sat in the long line waiting just like every other car. But then…

In that moment, I felt myself rising to the same frustration I knew the other drivers were feeling. I wanted to know what was going on to cause the hold up (this time of day there is never traffic). I thought of every single client waiting for me in the studio and I really started to panic.

What nearly threw me over the edge was a car determined to jump in front of me turned on a red light, and got stuck in the middle of the intersection with nowhere to go. This single act of impatience from someone else completely almost ruined my morning.

When I heard myself let out a sigh of frustration I stopped myself from really getting heated and asked  –– WHY? Why did I allow this unfortunate event to rattle me? Was there an alternative route I could take? What could I do to make things different?

The answer was YES and then NO. Yes I could find an alternate route, I didn’t need to sit in the long line following the lead of the car in front of me. I could think and act for myself. And No, I wasn’t going to allow someone else’s need to be an inch closer completely destroy my morning.

Needless to say I made it to the studio on time, not at all stressed and able to teach without having to shed any negative energy.

So I ask…

Why? Why do you follow the social norms if they don’t support you?

Why do you care what other people think of you when it doesn’t serve any need other and causes you pain?

Why do you allow people to influence your decisions when they don’t have any purpose except to cause stress?

Why do you let people get under your skin and into your thoughts and completely destroy your inner light?

As a society we are so caught up wondering what others think of us and whether or not we are living up to their expectations.

We compare ourselves and idolize people we have never met.

We tend to follow the crowd for fear of standing out and being different.

We get so caught up in a falsified illusion of the online world that we disconnect with the world around us. We are always in the mindset of “tomorrow” and forget to enjoy this very minute.

“What you think about, you bring about…”

Our inner dialogue is SO incredibly powerful. What we tell ourselves will manifest and it’s THIS voice we need to learn to master.

We need to be more gentle with ourselves and make the shift to one of optimism and positivity. As one of my mentors once said “Everything is figureoutable”.

So beautiful, what is your why? What are your low vibe thoughts currently messing with your happiness?
