nuttybutter shake
The Nuttybutter Shake is a simple green smoothie that has the consistency of a milkshake (thank you coconut milk) but contains all the green goodness you’d expect of a green smoothie.
You’ll taste why the Wellness Warrior community is obsessed with this creamy shake. Think of it as a tropical vacation and dessert in a glass. It’s perfect for green smoothie newbies as it doesn’t taste green. The good news it is free from any inflammatory processed sugar, dairy or other nasties so enjoy ever last drop with zero guilt. Instead it’s packed full of vibrant leafy greens, protein packed nuts, seeds and natural sweetness.
Coconut milk and vanilla provide the rich creamy texture and dessert like flavor, and when combined with mango it creates a delicious tropical flavor.
HOW TO MEAL PREP GREEN SMOOTHIES
I think that green smoothies are the best when they’re served fresh, straight from the blender. So I prep ahead by having all the ingredients on hand and ready to go. This means I always have my freezer stocked with frozen fruit and greens.
1) FREEZE BANANAS
In my opinion, bananas are the easiest ingredient to add when new to green smoothies. They provide both natural sweetness and a creamy texture. So add a couple extra bananas to your shopping basket designated to freeze for smoothies when you next go grocery shopping!
Let the bananas ripen then slice, flash freeze on a baking sheet, then transfer to an airtight, freezer-friendly container or bag to store!
2) USE FROZEN FRUIT & GREENS
The Nuttybutter Shake recipe calls for 1 cup of frozen fruit in addition to one frozen banana. Using frozen fruit and greens is key to the thickest, creamiest green smoothies. I do not use ice in any of my smoothie recipes—it waters down the flavor and gives smoothies an icy texture – which I am not a fan of.
Stock up on frozen fruit when it’s on sale. During the summer, purchase seasonal produce from your local farmers market for freshness and maximum flavour and flash freeze it in the same way as the bananas!
- 2 cups unsweetened coconut milk or non-dairy milk of choice
- 1 cup tightly packed mixed greens
- 1 Frozen Banana sliced
- 1 cup Frozen Mango
- 1 Tbsp Hemp Seeds
- 1 Tbsp Chia Seeds
- 1/2 tsp Vanila extract
- 2 Tbsp Almond Butter
- pinch sea salt
- Wash and prep all ingredinets
In a blender, add all ingredients. Blend and serve. (if needed, add a splash more water for a thinner consistency)
Storage tip: Store fresh smoothies in an airtight container for up to 24 hours.
Prep tip: Pre bag ingredients and keep in the freezer (except milk and vanilla) for future.
