What kind of Weekender are you?
Ahhh. Bliss we are at the start of the weekend, which is why I’m curious to know what kind of WEEKENDER are you?
Would you rather be outside exploring or home relaxing?
That’s a tough one for me, I like to think I’m a bit of a hybrid…
I love to get out in nature whenever possible. I find pleasure in a simple walk around Greenlake – our local lake, and adventurous hikes in the woods. As the weather in Seattle improves I find walking on the beach to be my favourite. I feel so relaxed and soothed by the sound of waves. There is incredible healing to be found at the beach even if it’s full of barnacles vs pristine white sand. Unless it’s a really hot day I am not a fan of swimming in the puget sound waters, but I love slipping off my shoes and walking barefoot in the salt water.
The other side of me LOVES nothing more than curling up with a good book, cuddling with my girls and hubby, popping on Harry Potter and lounging around. (Serena is OBSESSED, she must get it from her big sis Anisa and Aunty Aaliyah.) The one thing I try really hard NOT to do is work! I try to keep my laptop closed. And, I don’t plan any meetings and or take any work related calls on the weekend. This is my sacred time to be with family.
Some of my weekend must do’s however are: morning meditation, morning workout, quality time spent with family, and catching up with friends. The girls and I always make a tasty vegan, gluten free dessert for the upcoming week and we stock up on fresh veggies at our local farmers market.
Move Nourish Inspire Philosophy… The 3 basic principles I live by
Move
A daily dose of movement. It doesn’t matter how long, how intense or how sweaty I get, I just need to move my body every single day.
Nourish
Nourishment is so much more than what you eat. It fuels your Mind body and Spirit. It’s what you eat, drink and how you think, act and what you do and who you surround yourself with. This lends itself perfectly into my last pillar:
Inspire
I’m picky who I choose to spend my time with. And this goes for in person, online, the books I read and the music I listen to. Basically anything or anyone of influence I bring into my life is because they inspire me to be the best version of myself.
Here’s a little sneak peek into how my weekend typically looks:
Saturday:
I start my weekend off by teaching 3 barre classes every Saturday morning. (you can find me at the Bellevue Barre3 studio Monday mornings, Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings). Fresh green juice and a light lunch is next. And then I need a little quiet time to unwind and refuel my soul.
Meditation has been my saving grace this last year. I needed a tool to grieve after my Nanna passed away. Even though I practiced meditation for years, I never fully experience the healing and restorative benefits until I treated myself to sound bath. This is when it all clicked for me. Now, I typically meditate anywhere from 10-30 minutes depending on how my body is feeling. After I’m energized and ready to take our fur baby Luna for a walk.
In the evening we either go out for an early dinner as a family, or the girls help me create a new plant-based recipe. My back up plan is Kale salad with roasted veggies – a staple at our house when I’m not in recipe creation mode. (Be sure to try my favourite kale salad and let me know what you think).
Sunday:
Sunday’s are typically slower to start. I don’t need to be up and out the door by 6:30am to teach. This allows me a leisurely breakfast with the family. Most mornings I eat a chia parfait with fresh berries or, I vary it with a handful of homemade granola and local bee pollen. Afterwards, I head out for a morning yoga or barre class.
By the time I get home, the girls and hubby have taken Luna for her play so we tend to go for a walk around our local farmers market. Most of my recipe development ideas come from whatever veggies are in season. We love to explore which fresh microgreens and foraged mushrooms are available and we are obsessed with the Pinot Noir Kraut by Brits Pickles which can only be purchased from the market.
Sundays are when I like to create a new plant based dessert recipe. This week I’m whipping up a Blackberry Key Lime Pie on a Pistachio crust with fresh coconut whipped cream. Be sure to check back for the recipe and pictures!
